Google Ad Preview Tool

What is Google Ad Preview tool?

Google Ad Preview is a free tool that can be publicly used to see your ads (sponsored links) on Google. It is a tool that will allow you to see your ad listing as if another end-user were searching for your keyword(s).

Why use Google Ad Preview tool?

There are several factors in why you would want to use Google Ad Preview.

Impressions, clicks and click-thru rate (CTR)

Everytime your keyword is searched on Google and your ad appears on the page, it is counted as an impression. If someone clicks on your ad, it is then counted as a click. The click-thru rate (CTR) is your clicks over impressions. Basically it is the amount of clicks divided by the number of impressions. It is a way of tracking responses to your ad(s).

When we provide a traffic report for you, we want to make sure we provide numbers that come directly from the open market - meaning that we want to avoid numbers that may consist of searches/clicks that you may have done when doing your search. Your activity will end up skewing your "real" results, which we do not want to provide to you.

* Google Ad Preview allows you to check your placement without counting it as an impression or click. This allows our clients to see what their ad looks like and what average position they are getting from that keyword.

Cache, cookies and temporary internet files

Whenever you do any type of activity in your web browser, files are stored as cache or cookies. Cache or temporary internet files are data (typically text and images) used to allow the user to load the webpage faster if they are revisiting the site. Cookies are files used by the visited website that may store general statistical information to see what pages are being frequently read or visited. Websites such as online stores are known to use cookie files to track what products their users are viewing. Those websites may use those cookies to generate relevant content that the user may read or like, providing a great user experience. They also use those cookie files to track data for market research, allowing them to see if they should make changes to their site based on user data.

Based on the general understanding of cache (temporary internet files) and cookie files - whenever you perform a search on Google, cache and cookie files are stored. This basically states that you have already performed this search. If you do your keyword search frequently because you want to check your ad(s), Google will think you are not finding what you are wanting and shift those sponsored links around.

* Google Ad Preview allows you to check your placement of your ad the way it should normally be seen as if it was typed in by another user. Unless you delete your cache and cookies after every session, clients may run into this situation - which makes Google Ad Preview a perfect tool in seeing your ad and allowing you to check your ad as frequently as possible.
